Beaumont Divorce Lawyer Texas Alimony and Spousal Maintenance Lawyer

Temporary Alimony Lasts As Long as The Divorce Takes

Texas law provides for temporary alimony during the pendency of the divorce. Temporary alimony is support paid to one spouse by another until the marriage is ended. The amount of temporary alimony may be decided by agreement among the parties or by the court. How much is ordered depends on the earnings and expenses of each spouse as well as the discretion of the court.

Spousal Maintenance is Rehabilitation

Texas law also provides for spousal maintenance, a type of rehabilitation for one spouse following the divorce of a couple married 10 or more years. This support allows one spouse to prepare him or herself for future financial responsibilities. This maintenance is limited in amount and length of time paid. Texas law assumes three years is sufficient time for a spouse to become self-supporting.
